If you’re new here, Hi, hello! My name is Ivy, I’m a wedding and couples’ photographer based in northern Utah, in the Salt Lake City area. I love to capture all kinds of stories and making sure that I help your uniqueness shine through my lens is my specialty.
Honestly I cannot get over the pure emotion that Rachel and Spencer’s engagement photoshoot evokes in me. It gives me all the “New York Romcom” vibes, the “candid film” type feels, and I just love these photos! I can truthfully say that this shoot has been one of my favorites and I just KEEP coming back to it!
From the moment we started planning their shoot, these two knew they wanted to go with a more artsy kind of vibe and I was MORE than happy to oblige! (Of course, being of the artsy type myself.) For Rachel and Spencer, the softer aspects of life are a big part of their relationship so I wanted to make sure that translated through their photos.
We headed up to downtown Salt Lake City, where I knew I could find the most beautiful “urban acadamia” aesthetic in the classic historical architecture and setting.
The atmosphere you chose can a great way to set the tone for a photoshoot and how you want to frame your couple, but more important than location is understanding what your couple values, and what parts of their story they’re looking to showcase during their photoshoot.
For Rachel and Spencer both, a key point in their personalities individually as well as in their values as a couple is their love of quiet moments and the “in between the hustle” kind of love. I wanted to make sure to honor that in the way I captured the scenes of their love during our photoshoot, so look through these stunning photos to see how I set up each tender moment for them.
We included lots of intentional touch as our base pose for Rachel and Spencer, and within that general idea, we were able to move to prompts that invoked real smiles, more heartfelt glances at each other, and moments where the couple could actually and truly be themselves.
These two have the sweetest love and I was so excited to help capture this part of their love story in photos that will last a lifetime. Sharing their personalities in an engagement photoshoot before their wedding day helped me understand not only who they are as a couple, but also get a better understanding of what they value in their relationship and why they value it.
Their wedding that summer in a private art gallery was one of my favorite weddings to date. I firmly believe that I was able to capture this couple so authentically because we did the work beforehand to connect on our artistic values and we all understood the story the couple wanted told about their wedding day.
A wedding photographer (like myself) is able to curate so many different visions in a wedding gallery, but if we don’t know what matters to you as a couple, any number of tender moments could miss the mark by focusing on the wrong thing. A good photographer captures the details and the tender moments. A great photographer captures the right details and tender moments.
